Commonwealth Games silver medallist Sarah-Jane Perry says she will only have optics for gold at Birmingham 2022.

The world number 6 hails from Kenilworth, in host region the West Midlands, and is one of nine players picked for England's squash team.

"I'grand going in with very dissimilar expectations to last fourth dimension, last time I was just happy to get a medal, this time the focus is on that aureate medal, it's going to be hard graft and a hard task, I'chiliad massively upward for that challenge," Perry said, every bit reported by the Solihull Observer.

In additional to winning a gold medal, Perry is besides hopeful that the event can exit a lasting legacy for the West Midlands.

"Information technology's about giving admission to squash and other sports, especially children in deprived areas, at that place are quite a lot of deprived areas in the West Midlands, the impact these Games tin can have on those children and families is absolutely massive," Perry said.

"A lot of the squash projects that are happening are astonishing, there's whole teams of people that are working on ensuring whatever the barriers are to people beingness active and accessing a sport, there's a sport for everyone, they're finding out what's stopping them and how we can get around those barriers to make sure there is admission and brand sure the legacy of the Birmingham 2022 Games is bigger than any Games that at that place has been."

The University of Birmingham'south Hockey and Squash Centre is planned to phase squash tournaments at Birmingham 2022.
